Matthew Farley

Assistant Director of Operations

Matthew values radical hospitality and joy- aiming to create communities of care. His background is in educational administration, leadership, human resources, non-profit management, and mentorship. He has served as a Student Services Coordinator, Dean of Students, and Interim Principal for a charter school he helped establish in Charlotte, NC. His primary responsibilities were to provide student support for LGBTQ and BIPOC youth and their families.

In addition, he has been an active faith leader in the Black church while in seminary pursuing a Master of Divinity at the oldest Historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the southeast, Shaw University, and pastoring a congregation in Wilkesboro, NC. He is passionate about social justice issues and often cites his own experiences as a first-generation student/professional, low-income, Black, gay man of faith in the South as helping him build his own resilience and determination to overcome adversity and foster communal joy for the communities he serves.

Aside from supervising and mentoring Yale students, Matthew is also responsible for ongoing student development, advocacy, and signature programs. He fosters a culture of care by emphasizing “Choose Joy”! He enjoys spending time with Winston, his 3-year-old Yorkie.
