Prisme LGBT+ in New Haven

Prisme LGBT+ in New Haven is the New Haven chapter of Prisme LGBT+, a non-profit registered in France whose mission is to educate the youth about queer identities at the local level. In New Haven and in France, our efforts go towards designing educational leaflets that we provide to schools as a free resource to their students. We also organize school awareness campaigns during which we offer workshops seeking to educate students about queer identities. Finally, Prisme LGBT+ regularly collects data about the local level of awareness with the goal to better tailor our educational material to the local context. Through our educational efforts, we seek to not only introduce students to queer identities and debunk stereotypes that oppress the queer community, but also to provide students with the theoretical tools necessary to understand the oppressive social norms that are institutionalized in our society, including heteronormativity, cisnormativity and sexism.
